In addition to the exciting news we announced last week about our new space downtown, we also announced a new social skills group that will begin the first week of February.
Amanda Joy will be instructing the classes, and is passionate about this new project. Amanda has a MA in Applied Behavior Analysis with an emphasis in Autism, and has spent over five years as a special education teacher. She is excited to empower the participants in a joyful learning environment.
Social skills are important for all individuals allowing them to flourish in all areas of their lives. Here is a sneak peek at the curriculum:
“Unstuck & On Target” is a curriculum focused to improve flexibility and social skills. Flexibility and Social Skills present many problems for people with autism and other disabilities. Through “Unstuck & On Target” individuals will learn:
Individuals will be encouraged to participate and also interact with others in the class. “Unstuck & On Target” also provides home extension activities for individuals to do with their families. This helps with generalization of what they learn into other settings. When time permits, individuals will also be crafting and working as a team to create projects!
Social Skills Group:
Group 1: February 6 ending April 17 (5 weeks/Break/5 weeks)
Group 2: February 8 ending April 19 (5 weeks/Break/5 weeks)
Cost: $300.00 plus a $40.00 materials fee
